Saturday December 3rd marked the kickoff to the 2017 CARS eSport Tour at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, NC for drivers across the United States and around the globe. Driver A.J. Belanger would not be immune to the pitfalls of short track racing. Over 90 drivers posted times to lock into the 30 entry field. While A.J. Belanger was confident in making the field things took a turn quickly when Belanger realized qualifying would be held during the day instead of under the cooler temperatures and track surface at night. "We though we had a pretty good car to lock in through qualifying. We tested all week for night weather and cooler track temps. But, once we learned quals, would be held during the day we knew we were in trouble." said Belanger. the #24 Go BSGX would fail to qualify in the top 55 forcing him to the trailer for the remainder of the night in the Super Late Model Division.
As Qualifying rolled off for the CARS eSport Tour Late model Stock division Belanger would post the 48th quickest time to put him in the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier). The top 4 of the 30 car field would transfer to the A main. " We worked on the car during while the LCQ for the Supers was going and got it really comfortable and knew we'd have to go hard to get to the front for a transfer spot. Unfortunately all the cautions and being sent to the back once for the contact rule put us out of it. I thought once we got into to the top 10 with about 10 to go we could make it happen but it was train race." said the driver of the Gen3 Performance Imaging Chevrolet.
A.J. Belanger and Belanger Motorsports will roll into Five Flags Speedway this Saturday night for round 2 of the CARS eSport Tour. Belanger and team will be testing tonight and throughout the week at the half mile paved oval. As for this coming weeks race A.J. Belanger said "We feel a lot better about this week now that we know how the qualifying and practice rounds are setup as far as weather and time of day. Its definitely discouraging to start a season out like last weekend but we feel comfortable that we can rebound. I guess if there is a positive to look at about it if you're gonna have an off night there's no better time than the beginning of the year so you can climb out of it."
